Dreams

Everyone dreams. Since the very early days of psychology, the phenomenon of dreaming has been a central topic. What is the “uncanny” of dreams? Why do some people sleep walk and others have lucid dreams? What are their neurobiological mechanisms and how does sleep affect psychological health or is related to clinical symptomatology?

Psychiatry

As we are located at the Department of Psychiatry, many of our students study psychology in order to practice one day in a clinical setting. Therefore, during this term we approached the question of how “psychiatry” is portrayed or understood in movies. The seminar series was co-hosted by Nicole Bittermann (MA student in psychology) and we discussed differences between pharmacological vss. therapeutical interventions, the construction of “normality” in movies or the understanding of psychiatric diagnoses as dimensional vs. categorical.
